He took advantage of the GI Bill and earned a BA from the University of Miami in Miami, FL Returning to West Hartford, George joined the Fireside Group at Immanuel Congregational Church in Hartford, CT, where he met his wife, Helen, and made many more long time friends during his 60 years as a member. George and Helen moved to Glastonbury, CT, where he lived until his move to be near his daughter in Vermont. George worked at Cronin in Glastonbury for over 40 years, first writing copy, then managing aspects of the office. George and Helen enjoyed swimming and having friends over for bridge and pool parties. A devoted father, George taught his daughter to swim, change tires and to drive--including doughnuts in the school parking lot. Together they went on Saturday morning adventures. George was also an accomplished artist in many mediums including oil, pastel, pen and ink, and wood carvings, and he enjoyed his time as a member of the East Hartford Art League. His prize winning apple pies were irresistible. George loved going to lunch with his sister, Judy, or his friends John, Fred and Bob. He made friends wherever he went--at the bank and any businesses he was associated with over the years, walking down Glastonbury Blvd, the Glastonbury Senior Center, daily gatherings at Panera Bread, or just talking with his neighbors. George was a philanthropist at heart and had many organizations he was proud to support, including the American Red Cross to which he donated 15 gallons of blood. He was proud to take part in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C., with fellow veterans, to reflect on the memorials built in their honor. He loved animals, especially cats and dogs and he was sure to have dog treats in every jacket pocket. A celebration of life will be held at the Immanuel Congregational Church in Hartford, CT on December 18, 2021. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Immanuel Church Book of Remembrance, 10 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105.
