Mangan, John
John Mangan, 76, of Plainville, loving husband and best friend of Leslie (Kallberg) Mangan, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Autumn Lake Health Care Center.
Born in New Britain on February 7, 1945, John was the son of the late Charles Mangan, Sr. and Dorothy (Lindelof) Minicucci. A lifelong resident, John was a 1964 graduate of Plainville High School, where he shined on the football field and was inducted into the PHS Sports Hall of Fame in 2019. He and his high school sweetheart Leslie remained in their hometown upon their marriage, where they shared 54 years of love, hard work, friendships and community service. John was a life member of the Plainville Fire Company, rising through the ranks over his more than 30 years of service including Lieutenant, Captain and 2nd Assistant Chief; was an EMT and accepted driver training responsibilities for new members. A longtime member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, John was a skilled heavy equipment and truck operator, having worked for many construction companies
and retired from Manafort Brothers after 13 years of dedication. He was considered part of their family, and was proud to say he operated each and every piece of equipment. Upon his retirement, he and Leslie shared many casino trips together, and John looked forward to daily coffee with his Mcdonald's crew. Remembered for his love for his family, many friends and his community, his presence will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife, Leslie, he leaves his brother, Charles Mangan, Jr. and his wife Karen of Buffalo, MO; his half-sister Bonnie Theriault and her husband Raymond of Southington, CT and his sister-in-law Sandra Abucewicz and her husband Thomas. He was a proud Godfather to many and loving uncle to several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, including Richard and John Abucewicz and Kristen Rouillard and their families, with whom he shared many special times. He was predeceased by step father John Minicucci, his sister Carol Swetz, his brothers-in-law, James Kallberg and William Kallberg and his wife Dale; and his best buddy Jimmy Ross with whom he is now reunited.
