Dow, Louis F.
Louis Fenner Dow, Jr., 92, of Avon, died July 27, 2021, after a long and full life.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mayor Louis Fenner and Georgina (Macaulay) Dow of Burlington, VT.
After attending Burlington schools and graduating from the University of Vermont in 1953, he served two years in
the U.S. Army. He relocated to the Hartford area in 1955 and spent the next 50-plus
years in the investment industry, retiring in 2008 at 79. The two passions in his adult life were travel and golf. Throughout the 1990's and 2000's, Lou and Jeane enjoyed many wonderful trips around the United States and Europe. They fell in love with Switzerland and in particular, Montreux. Two special golf experiences were playing at Pebble Beach and attending the Masters Tournament. Locally, he first belonged at The Country Club of Farmington where he and his partner won the Championship flight of the annual Major Member Guest Tournament three years in a row. Later, he belonged to Farmington Woods Golf Club in Avon for 30 years continuing to play golf to age 90.
Lou is survived by the love of his life and wife of over 40 years, Jeane, and his 8-year-old English Springer
Spaniel and best buddy, Remi. He also leaves behind his son, Peter (Kathy) of Southington, and his daughter, Wendy (Tom) Miller of Harwich, MA; three granddaughters, Kaitlin (Ryan) Humble, Stacey (Brent) Zukowski, and Amanda Dow; five great-grandchildren; and also his close friends, the Ziemnickis of Granby.
A 90th birthday celebration was held with all of Lou's extended family. It was a wonderful celebration of his life, and the best part was that he was there and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center of Avon has been entrusted with the family's private arrangements.
