Doris T. (Beaupre) Curley, 93, of East Hartford, beloved wife of 38 years of the late Joseph J. Curley, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021at her home with her loving and caring family by her side. Born in Hartford on May 9, 1928, a daughter of the late Ernest and Rose (Doucette) Beaupre, she had been a resident of East Hartford since 1958. Doris was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, Class of 1946. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the town of East Hartford Board of
Education where she worked at the library in George J. Penney High School.
Doris was an active member of the East Hartford Democratic Party where she was a former Vice Chairwoman of the Town Committee, a former member of the Town Council, and held the office as Treasurer of East Hartford. For her dedication and volunteering for many years she was honored and a former recipient of the Democratic Woman of the Year.
A devout Catholic, Doris was a longtime faithful communicant of St. Christopher Church in East Hartford. She was a competitive woman who loved playing cards, especially the game of “Set-back”. She also
liked watching and attending horse races, classical movies, traveling with family and friends, and baking her famous coffee cake and banana bread for family and friends to enjoy. Most of all, Doris was a proud and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, “GG”, and aunt who had a zest for life and never missed a family party or social event.
Doris is survived by her loving children: son, James Curley of East Hartford with whom she made her home; daughter, Margaret Appel and her husband Robert of East Hartford; daughter-in-law, Sandra Curley of Coventry. She was also a supportive grandmother to her four beautiful cherished granddaughters, Andrea Szerejko and her husband Christopher of Tolland, Lauren Wellner and her husband Nicholas of Glastonbury, Ashley Rudnik and her husband Kyle of West Hartford, Jennifer Appel and her fiancé, Zachary Noe, of Revere, MA; and “GG” to her three adored great-grandchildren, Ava and Julia Szerejko both of Tolland, and Jack Wellner of Glastonbury. She also leaves two sisters-in-law, Marion Watts of Wethersfield and Antoinette Beaupre of West Hartford. She also had a very special relationship with her many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. Along with her beloved husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Joseph D. Curley of Coventry; four sisters, Beatrice Beaupre, Alice Dimauro, Annette Sinicrope, Lorraine Knapp; and three brothers, Robert, Raymond, and Maurice Beaupre.
Funeral service will be Monday (August 9, 2021) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Christopher Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. (Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Monday morning). Doris' family will receive relatives and friends at the D'esopo-east Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Sunday afternoon (August 8, 2021) from 4-6 pm. Due to the ongoing health pandemic, everyone is asked to please wear a face covering and adhere to all regulations. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doris' name may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
