Koreo Rubenstein
(September 2003-August 1, 2021) passed away a month before his 18th birthday, with his loving furbaby “mom”, Marla Rubenstein, and grandma Lynn, softly petting and talking to him as he took his last breath at the Connecticut Veterinary Center under the compassionate care of Dr. Donald
Cox. Although Koreo’s heart disease was wellmanaged, recent neurological symptoms in conjunction with end stage Kidney disease proved too much to bear, even with his incredible will and strength to keep fighting to stay with Marla as long as he could. Koreo enjoyed his 9 lives sleeping/playing with sister Kicho; friendship with his grandparents’ cat Muffin which deepened since he moved in with her; climbing carpeted cat trees; playing voraciously especially chasing the ‘stick’ end of toys, or jumping to catch whatever Marla threw like his heart-shaped blue mouse; getting brushed; laying on freshly folded laundry; window sitting to watch birds (moving the shade aside with his head as needed); enjoying the beach cottage Marla once had; waiting by the door for Marla to return from walking. His favorite past-time of all was being by Marla’s side - sleeping draped across her chest, paws under her chin. Special thanks to Jadira of Vet Specialists, for bonding with Koreo who allowed her to assist us giving IV fluids at home for Kidney support. Eternal gratitude for Dr. Cox and staff for being there for Marla and Koreo, providing care that gave him his best chance to live this long. He was predeceased by his sister Kicho, and grandfather Herbert. May they have a warm reunion.
It was a heavy and impossible thing to say good-bye. His loss leaves an emptiness in our hearts and house that won’t ever be filled. RIP best friend Koreo.
