Stankewicz, Irene (Pietrzykowski)
Irene (Pietrzykowski) Stankewicz, 89, of Southington, passed away at home on Monday July 26. She was the wife of the late Edward S. Stankewicz.
Irene was born on April 6, 1932 in Meriden, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Wywiorski) Pietrzykowski. Her father died when she was two years old, and her mother remarried John Pietruski, who was the only father she ever really knew.
Irene grew up in Meriden and attended schools there. She moved to Southington and married Ed, starting her family of five children. We always teased her that whenever one of her kids started school she'd have another one so she wouldn't have to go to work. Eventually she did work part time in a package store where she loved chatting with all the customers.
She enjoyed playing games, winning often; dinner & playing poker with her family on Sundays, as well as regular visits to Foxwoods. She loved playing the lottery, doing jigsaw puzzles, spending time with her family and always knew how to have a good time. In addition to her husband Edward, she is predeceased by her son Edward M. Stankewicz, her brother Benjamin Pietrykowski, and her sister Isabel Kruczek.
Irene is survived by her children: Laura Levaur and her husband Hank of Maui, HI; Karen Rieger and her husband George of Plantsville, Lisa King (late husband Richard) of Newington, and Edie Stankewicz of West Hartford. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Zachary and Travis King of Newington, and step grandchildren, Joshua King (Phuong) and Amalia (Paul) Labinson, and their children, all residing in New Hampshire, plus many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Susie Santaniello who considered Irene as her second mother, and did so much for her, and to Jane Stankiewicz, her niece, who took her to numerous appointments and enjoyed many meals out together. Calling hours will be Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the Dellavecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, from 10 AM – 1 PM. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
