Power-hitting Toglia gets the call
Michael Toglia, the Rockies’ third-best prospect according to Baseball America, was called up to Hartford last week after hitting 17 home runs for High-a Spokane. Colorado’s first-round draft choice in 2019, Toglia showed plus-power at UCLA, hitting 36 home runs in 178 games. That pop has so far translated to professional baseball, as he’s already launched 27 home runs in 121 games in the minors. He’s hit just .182 in six games with Hartford, but already has a home run and two doubles. According to Baseball America, Toglia is the best power hitter in the Rockies’ system.
Ryan Feltner rising in rankings
Feltner began the season as Baseball America’s 21st-ranked prospect. In their midseason update, the 24-year-old righthander came in at 17. In seven starts with High-a Spokane, Feltner spun a 2.17 ERA, with 45 strikeouts in 37 ⅓ innings. Since being called up to Hartford, he’s posted a 3.14 ERA in nine starts, with 49 strikeouts to 16 walks. His last start (Aug. 4 at New Hampshire) was one of his best yet. He pitched seven shutout innings, struck out nine and gave up just two hits in the win.
Binghamton prospects
Third baseman Brett Baty, New York’s first-round draft choice in 2019, is the organization’s second-ranked prospect according to Baseball America. Since his promotion to Binghamton in July, the 21-year-old has slashed .250/.340/.413 with three home runs and 13 RBIS. Mark Vientos, a 21-year-old corner infielder, is the organization’s No. 4 prospect. The 2017 second-round pick has flashed some power in Binghamton, with 20 home runs and 15 doubles in 62 games this year. No. 10 prospect Carlos Cortes, a 24-year-old outfielder from South Carolina, has hit .270 with 13 home runs this year. Bridgeport native Justin Lasko, owner of a 2.59 ERA at High-a Brooklyn, will make his Double-a debut against Hartford on Thursday.
