Martino, Joseph J.

-

Joseph J. Martino, 88 of Plainville passed away Thursday August 19, 2021 at home after a long battle with COPD. A lifelong resident of New Britain and Plainville, he retired after a successful career with AT&T and enjoyed a second career with Nutmeg State Federal Credit Union. An avid car lover and tinkerer, Joe spent his free time “puttering” around the yard where he enjoyed mowing the lawn, washing his cars, repairing things that had broken and attending old car shows with his family and friends.

He proudly served in the US Army from 1953-1955 and after beginning his career with Connecticut Light & Power, married his childhood sweetheart, Jeanine Forestandi, having spent 64 years together. She was the love of his life and his devotion to her was always evident, even in the smallest of things he did. He loved seeing his grandchildren grow up and always felt their love and warmth when they visited. He often remarked at how lucky he felt to be surrounded by his children / grandchildren and their attentiveness to him in the later part of his life.

He is survived by his wife Jeanine, three sons and their wives David & Lisa Martino of Farmington, Paul and Angie Martino of Elmhurst IL and John and Christine Martino of Berlin; Seven grandchildren Christopher, Nicholas, Olivia, Alexandra, Jack, Francesca and William Martino; his brother Robert & Ceil Martino of Plainville; his sister Catherine and Gerald Cyr of Inverness FL; a cousin Ronald and Alberta Martino of Guilford as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother Charlotte (Dimaio) and his father Joseph C. Martino of Forestville.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the COPD Foundation (www.copdfoundation. org)
