Cornelius Earl Owens, 74, of Newington, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at Amberwoods of Farmington, after a long five year battle with kidney disease. Born on April 1, 1947, in Lynch, Kentucky, Cornelius was the son of the late William and Bessie Mae (Noble) Owens, Jr. Cornelius graduated from Lynch High School before moving to Vernon, CT. He honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Cornelius was employed by the former Amerbelle Mill in Rockville, CT and later as a Drill Press Operator with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, retiring after 20 years of employment with the

company. Cornelius was the eldest of ten children. He was the big brother “the jokester” always trying to make you laugh!

He is survived by his brothers, Malcolm, Rubard and

Thomas Owens, all of Rockville, CT, his sisters, Wanda Hill and Lorna Owens of Rockville, CT and Willa Stephens of CA; his aunt, Katherine Owens of CA; four step children, many nieces and nephews and several close friends, Janice Daly, Russell Vigue, Susan Cunningham, Helen Flanagan and Wayne Youman. Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his brothers, Darrell Carlton Owens and William Owens, III and his sister, Marilyn Owens Mcfarland and his former wife Linda Williams. Cornelius's family would like to thank the staff at both Amberwoods of Farmington and Davita of Newington, for keeping Cornelius in great spirits. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the State of Connecticu­t Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown.
