Peter Francis Ciparelli, 69, of Colchester, beloved husband of the late Wendy (Jolly) Ciparelli, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at UCONN John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. Peter was born in Hartford, CT, on September 10, 1951, to Irene (Manning) Ciparelli and the late Francis Ciparelli. Peter grew up in East Hartford and graduated from Penney High School in 1969 where he excelled in track and field and held the 880 yard school record for almost a decade. He went on to graduate from Central Connecticu­t State College where he spun his favorite Beatles' records as

a college radio DJ at WFCS/WCCS and earned his bachelor's degree in history. After attending the University of Rhode Island for a master's degree in library science, he worked as library director in several different library systems around the state. As a director, he turned his passion for reading and knowledge into lifelong public service by advocating for libraries and their ability to provide more equal access to knowledge and resources for all members of the communitie­s he served. Peter and Wendy raised their family in Ellington. Peter enjoyed camping, vacationin­g in Cape Cod, reading, music, and supporting the Red Sox. Along with his mother, Irene of East Hartford and now residing in Colchester, Peter is survived by his children, Jessica Ciparelli of South Windsor; Christophe­r Ciparelli and his wife Katherine, their children Thea, Arlo, and Rhys of New Milford; Gregory Ciparelli of New Britain; Angela Ciparelli and her children Tyler Cottrill and Abigail Ciparelli of Hebron; his sister, Maryann Meade and her daughter, Kathryn of Mansfield; and his brother-in-law Dennis Jolly and his wife Donna of Hebron and their children Stephen and Amanda. Besides his wife and father, Peter was predecease­d by his grandson, Oliver Ciparelli; his mother-in-law, Elsie Jolly; and his fatherin-law, Armand Jolly. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 30th from 5-8 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 31st., 10:30 a.m., directly at St. Luke's Church, 141 Maple St., Ellington, CT. Burial will follow at Ellington Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Peter's name to Cragin Memorial Library, 8 Linwood Avenue, Colchester, CT 06415.
