Mary H. (Dubicki) Palka, 91, of Farmington, wife of the late Matthew J. Palka, passed away at home on Tuesday, August 24th, 2021. Born on February 2, 1930 in Naliboki, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Aleksander and Josefa (Lojka) Dubicki. Marysia, as she was known, was an excellent student and skipped three grades during her early school years. Her education was cut short due to unrest in the region during World War II where she was placed into a forced labor camp in Germany. Once the Allies liberated Europe, she spent 3 years in a displaced persons camp while awaiting asylum status from the United States. She came to Hartford in 1949 with her mother, oldest sister and her brother-in-law. Shortly thereafter, she met her husband Matthew and they wed on August 5, 1950. Mary was an active member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church in Hartford for 72 years, singing in the church choir and serving as a Eucharisti­c Minister. She was also extremely involved in several organizati­ons, including the Polish Women’s Alliance of Hartford, Group 280; Polish Legion of American Veterans, Ladies Auxillary; The Rosary Society at St. Cyril’s; Koło Przyjació Harcerstwa Poloskiego of Hartford; The Br. Albert Society of St. Cyril; The Low Vision Group and

the Political Salon every Wednesday at the Farmington Senior Center; and many other groups. Mary leaves behind her beloved children, Henry Palka and Lucina

Nadeau of Farmington, her granddaugh­ters Sarah Chevett (William) and Katharine Rocci (Jonathan), great-grandson Beckett, great-grand dog Sophie as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by her sisters, Elizabeth Szumczyk, Irene Dubicki and her brother Matthew Dubicki. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 28th, 2021, directly at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church,55 Charter Oak Ave. Hartford at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford. Her family will receive friends at the Duksa Family Funeral Home at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Avenue, Newington, on Friday, August 27th from 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. PM.
