Meny Jr, Joseph G.

-

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Joseph G. Meny, Jr. on Sunday August 22, 2021 in Hartford, CT. Joe passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved wife of 45 years and three children. Joe’s persistent kindness and generosity were second only to his love for his family and friends.

Joe was born on July 25, 1950 in Hartford to Joseph G. Meny, Sr. and Jeanette Butler Meny. He was a graduate of Northwest Catholic High School and Providence

College. He continued his education at the University of Hartford, earning a Masters Degree in Public Administration. He began his career with Connecticut General in 1973, where he also met his wife on their first day of work. He retired from CIGNA in 2004 after a successful career as a National Account Executive. Not quite ready to retire completely, he went on to work for Lindberg and Ripple as a consultant until 2014.

Joe developed close relationships with friends from Northwest Catholic, Providence College, CIGNA, and as a resident of West Hartford for 50 years. He loved

family gatherings, relaxing on Cape Cod, all things Providence College, and playing golf. He hosted the annual Mcdermott Open golf tournament for his PC friends which was always a highlight of his year. Never afraid to play too much golf, he also organized an annual tournament for Northwest Catholic and West Hartford friends at his home on Cape Cod. Irish culture

and music were a constant love in Joe’s life and he was a member of the Irish American Club. Joe was an avid reader and book club devotee. He always accepted any opportunity to play cards with friends and enjoyed coaching his kids in youth sports for over 10 years. He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Peter Claver Church.

He is survived by his wife, Susan, with whom he cherished travelling, especially to the Cape, playing golf, and hosting gatherings with their friends and family. Joe was a loving father and grandfather and is survived

by his three children, Kate Martin and her husband Brian, John Meny and his wife Jenn, and Eileen Meny. He always had a hug or special treat in hand for his five grandchildren, Eleanor, James, Felix, Josephine, and Charlie. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara O’neill, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jane and

Jerry Ouellette, sister-in-law, Anne Morley, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

His family would like to thank the staff at St. Francis Hospital for the care he received prior to his passing. Relatives and friends may join the family for calling hours on Sunday August 29th from 4-7pm at Molloy Funeral Home (906 Farmington Ave, West Hartford) and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 30th at 10:00am at St. Peter Claver Church (47 Pleasant St, West Hartford).
