ACM Honors fetes work in genre

Dan + Shay, Luke Combs, Rascal Flatts and more country artists were celebrated alongside prominent songwriter­s, producers and industry leaders for their work in the genre at the Academy of Country Music Honors awards show Wednesday.

“Without the songwriter­s in this town, we would have none of this. We have none of the shows, none of the record sales,” said Dan Smyers of the duo Dan + Shay, who were given the Jim Reeves Internatio­nal Award.

Combs, the first artist to have his first 11 singles hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, received the Gene Weed Milestone Award. “There’s a whole … lot more country music in this boy right here, and I can’t wait for you to hear it,” Combs said.

Carly Pearce, Alan Jackson and Lee Ann Womack sang tributes to country icon Loretta Lynn, who received the Poets Award. Lynn, who spoke in an audio message, called it greatest award she could get. Songwriter Gretchen Peters and artist Toby Keith also were each given a Poet’s Award.

PBS filmmaker Ken Burns accepted the Tex Ritter Film Award for his multipart series “Country Music,” which aired in 2019.

Country group Rascal Flatts, who announced their retirement in 2020 after two decades together, were honored with the Cliffie Stone Icon Award.

Producer and songwriter Ross Copperman received the Gary Haber Lifting Lives Award along with Lady A.

and others, alleging the image is child pornograph­y they have profited from.

The lawsuit, filed by Spencer Elden on Tuesday in federal court in California, alleges that Nirvana and the record labels “intentiona­lly commercial­ly marketed Spencer’s child pornograph­y and leveraged the shocking nature of his image to promote themselves and their music at his expense.”

The lawsuit says Elden has suffered “lifelong damages” from the image of him naked underwater appearing to swim after a dollar bill on a fish hook.

It seeks at least $150,000 from each of more than a dozen defendants, including the Kurt Cobain estate, surviving Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, and

Geffen Records.

Wright injured filming stunt:

“Black Panther” star Letitia Wright was being treated in a hospital after sustaining minor injuries on the Boston set of “Wakanda Forever.” A Marvel spokespers­on said in a statement Wednesday that the incident happened while filming a stunt

for the sequel. Wright is reprising her role as Shuri, the science-minded sister of the late Chadwick Boseman’s T’challa, in “Wakanda Forever,” set for released in July 2022.

Lil Nas X album has release date:

Lil Nas X officially announced Sept. 17 as the release date for his long-anticipate­d debut album, “Montero,” in a social media post Wednesday. The rapper also debuted a trailer for the album.

Doja Cat will host the

2021 MTV Video Music Awards show on Sept. 12. The singer, who will also perform at the show, is nominated in five categories, including video of the year and artist of the year.
