Zitkus, Carol J.

Carol Jean (Petrovick) Zitkus, 71, of Barkhamsted, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at home. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on December 9, 1949, the beloved daughter of the late William F. and Jean M. (Gorman) Petrovick. Carol was educated in local schools. Carol's love for nursing and especially elder care started early as she worked at Maplegrove nursing home during high school. After completing nursing school and getting married Carol began a 20-year long career in management with Aetna. After retirement she went back to nursing and worked for 10 years at Mclean in Simsbury. Once she retired from Mclean she cared for her beloved husband Richard until his passing in 2014. Carol was an avid reader, she enjoyed writing and sending notes to family and friends, gardening and taking care of her plants. She loved spending time with her family, especially her sister “Ellie” her Mini Sheltie “Tommy.” She is survived by her sister; Eleanor E. Petrovick of Walpole, MA, her brother; William J. Petrovick and his wife Susan of Walpole, MA, her nephew; Brian Petrovick of Nevada, her stepchildren; Richard Zitkus and his wife Laurie of Manchester, Scott Zitkus of Morrison, CO, Mark Zitkus of Newmarket, NH, and Catherine Dougan and her husband Christopher of Glastonbury, and her dear friend whom she took excellent care of Josephine (Babe) Ochotnicky of Winsted. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard A. Zitkus and her parents. Her beautiful soul will be remembered by the many peoples lives she touched in nursing, hospice care and the business world. She will be truly missed by her loving family and beloved friends. Carol's family will receive friends on Monday August 30, 2021, from 4-8PM at the Hayes-huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook Street, Granby, CT 06035. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday August 31, 2021, at 11AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
