Yates, Sherril Blake

-

Sherril Pancheta Blake Yates, age 61, passed away on August 12, 2021 at her home in Bloomfield, Connecticut. She was born on April 25, 1960 in Penrith District, Manchester Jamaica. She was the 7th of 9

children born to Joyce and Gilbert Blake (predeceased). She is survived by 6 sisters and 3 brothers: Minalva Young, Joy Brown, Gay Chin (Manuel) Dawn Grant (Earl) Pamella Blake (Predeceased), Terry Morgan (Kenton), Noel Blake, Delroy Blake (Elaine) and Robert Blake. She also leaves behind several cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Sherril spent her early years in Manchester where she attended Miss

Pearl Basic School, and then the Auchtembeddie All Age School. Upon completion she attended the West Indies College in Mandeville, Jamaica – now known as Northern Caribbean University - where she pursued nursing certification. Upon attaining her higher educational studies, she then moved to Montego Bay, Jamaica where she worked for several years at the Dolphin Grill before migrating to the United States in 1987. She resided in New York City, Virginia, and Florida for a number of years before finally making Connecticut her final home in 2001. Here she worked as a Certified Nursing Aide at the Hebrew Home and Rehab Health Care in

West Hartford CT for 20 years acting as Union Rep, and at the Julie House in Windsor CT for 14 years where she cared for retired nuns. Sherril was an extraordinary cook who loved hosting family, friends, and members of the community. Her home was the gathering place where persons would come for food, laughter, music, and a mighty good time. She was an avid reader who was known for always having the last word because her love of reading came in handy when it came to debating any topic. Sherril was the life of any party and would be seen on the dance floor ‘jiggling up her body' and coaxing others to join in. The saying seems fitting here that “Unable are the loved to die for love is immortality”; as many will remember her for her delicious soups and salads, and the compassionate care she administered and showed to her patients. Sherril fell ill in March 2021 and succumbed to her ailment on August 12, 2021, at 4:30 am. Just as in life she was never alone so it was even on her death bed as she was surrounded by family and friends who whispered comforting words as she took her last breath.

The Funeral Service for the late Sherril Pancheta Blake Yates will be held at Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 1052 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield, CT on August 29, 2021.Viewing will be during the hours of 11am to 1pm with the official service commencing
