Hopper, Monica A.

Monica A. Hopper, 87, retired teacher from Newington High School and resident of Rocky Hill, passed away

on August 15, 2021. Monica was born on April 3, 1934, one of three daughters of Margaret and Francis Hopper. Monica attended school in Newington and went on to Saint Joseph University in Hartford. In 1957, she began teaching Latin and Math at Newington High School, retiring in 1992. She was predeceased by her sisters Margaret and Elaine and her nephew William Harris. Surviving are her brother-in-law, Raymond Smith of Berwyn Heights, MD, her nephew Michael Smith and his wife Karen, their children Zachary, Joshua, Nicole and Jacob of North Charleston, SC, her niece Patricia Mcvicker and her husband James, their son James of Alexandria, VA, her niece Rebecca Harris and her daughter Colleen Cauley of Winston Salem NC. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 29, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave. in Newington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 30th at Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish at St. James Church, 767 Elm St. Rocky Hill with interment following at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Monica's memory may be made to Food for the Poor, 6401 Lyons Rd., P.O. Box 979001, Coconut Creek FL 33097-9970.
