Fortier, Joan M.

-

Joan M. Fortier, 82, loving and committed wife and mother, and lifelong follower of Jesus, died peacefully on August 28th in Naples, FL. Joan was an involved and generous mother and grandmother and she was a true friend to so many more. She lived a life of genuine care and concern toward those she knew and loved; always ready to lend a hand, share a meal, or simply talk to and offer support to those who sought her friendship. Her reliable answer to almost any situation was “let's pray,” and many grew closer to Jesus as a result of seeing her unwavering faith.

She and her husband, Ray, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary earlier this year. In love as ever before, Joan remained interested in his health and happiness, even in her last days. Collectively they leave behind a proud family legacy via their children and their offspring: Raymond & Suzanne Fortier (Moodus, CT), Michael & Jeri Fortier (Old Lyme, CT), Kimberley & Allen Alonzo (Haddam, CT) and Jeffrey & Caitlin Fortier (Naples, FL) along with 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren who gave her joy and so many wonderful memories.

Mom made a very fine meat sauce and an excellent tossed salad, which she was reliably requested to bring to nearly all family gatherings over the past half century. She loved family events and among our fondest memories were the annual Christmas Eve gatherings she hosted in our home for more than 25 years. A church service followed by burial and a luncheon will begin at the Living Rock Church in Killingworth, CT at 10am on Tuesday, September 7th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Living Rock Church's R3 Campaign.
