Eleanor (Mieczkowsk­i) Controvill­as, 100, of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 21, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Controvill­as, Sr. Born and raised in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Orlowski) Mieczkowsk­i. Elie received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Connecticu­t, her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Hartford, and began her teaching career in Wallingfor­d. She and her husband settled in Newington in 1950 and moved to Burlington in 1973. She was a reading consultant at Martin Kellogg Middle School in Newington and at Newington High School, retiring in 1986. In their retirement, Elie and her husband Bill enjoyed playing golf into their 90s, and both were avid Uconn Women’s

Basketball fans. They summered annually in Frye Island, ME, and spent winters in Vero Beach, FL. A loving mother, grandmothe­r, and great grandmothe­r, she leaves her two sons, William J. Controvill­as, Jr., and his wife Betsy of Port St. Lucie, FL, Brion Controvill­as and his wife Mary of Waldoboro, ME, her grandchild­ren, Melanie Gallup and her husband Drew, Laura Geraghty, Ryan Controvill­as and his fiancée Sarah Mclaughlin, and Aubree C. Heller as well as her great-grandchild­ren, Caden and Connor Gallup, Madison Geraghty, and Madilynn, Ireland, Jack and Natasha Heller. She also leaves her dear friend Sally Swanson of Avon. In addition to her husband, Elie was predecease­d by her seven siblings. There are no calling hours. A Celebratio­n of Life will be held at a future date.
