FARMINGTON — Hartford Baking Company, with locations in West Hartford and Glastonbury, has opened its newest store, at 767 Farmington Ave. in Farmington.

Katherine Kluger — the store’s publicist and the wife of HBC’S owner, Scott Kluger — said the store soft-opened and will postpone any official opening ceremony for a while.

“With COVID spiking, we feel a bit uncomfortable organizing events indoors in this small space,” Kluger said. “Maybe in the warmer weather. We have a nice patio.”

The store, nonetheless, is open for business, in the Brick Walk location where Truffles bakery used to be. The store serves the same lineup of baked goods as the other two stores. The food for all three stores is made from scratch every night in HBC’S Bloomfield commissary.

When Kluger announced his intent to open a store in the space, Truffles was just closing after 17 years. He noted that the area had long had a bakery.

“We are thrilled that we are going to be able to continue the tradition of having a bakery at this location in Farmington Village,” he said.

“In the ‘80s, early ‘90s, Ann Howard had a bakery on Farmington Avenue right near the corner of Lasalle that I remember going in. Then she moved to Farmington and was there until probably about 2004, when Truffles took over.”

The usual offerings include boules, croissants, ciabatta, baguettes, miches, rolls, fruit crostata, cookies, scones, muffins, coffee cake, brownies, pretzels, buns, tarts, quiches and sandwiches.

Delivery is being offered for the holidays, as long as orders are placed by Dec. 19. Special offerings on the holiday menu include holiday sprinkle cookie, holiday buckle with cranberries and ginger, flourless chocolate torte, stollen, a cookie box and cranberry spice cake.

Hartford Baking Company in Farmington is open daily 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
