Traggis, Anthony N.
Anthony N. Traggis, 80, of Lyme passed away on Dec.15 at Chesterfield's Health Care Center in Chester. A first-generation Greek American, he was born in New London on Jan. 6, 1941, the son of Nicholas and Sophia (Genaros) Traggis. He married Nancy Trimble on Oct. 16, 1998 when they eloped to Martha's Vineyard to the astonishment of friends and family.
Anthony loved fishing in Long Island Sound and Key West. He enjoyed chasing bonito in his fishing boat and driving his Morgan roadster sportscar. He was a longtime member of Shennecossett Yacht Club in Groton and the Coastal Conservation Association. He was a life-long New York Yankees fan. For many years, he and his brother Sandy made their own robust red wine under the Traggis Brothers label.
Anthony graduated from New London High School and Thames Valley Community College in Norwich where he studied mechanical engineering.
For nearly 50 years, he worked around the U.S. and the world on the construction of power plants while employed by Combustion Engineering, ABB and Alstom Power in Windsor.
Anthony is survived by his wife Nancy, his sister Katherine Booth and her husband James Robert Booth of Bozrah, his sister-in-law Carol (Phillips) Traggis of Rochester, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Irene Stearns and Penelope Milon; his brother Sandy; and his first wife Elizabeth (Mulcahy) Traggis.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a funeral service will not be held at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
