Johnson, Judith L.

-

Judith Elaine (Lauritzen) Johnson, 80, joined God on December 15, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. Daughter of the late Helen and Edward Lauritzen, Judy was born April 2, 1941. She grew up in West Hartford graduating from Conard High School in 1959. During high school, Judy was a baton twirler and was very involved in her church youth

group. Judy attended radiology school at Hartford Hospital, worked as an x-ray technician for 45years and was the first x-ray tech at Orthopedic Associates of Hartford. Judy also spent time selling Home Decor and as a secretary at Newington High School. Judy met her husband, Roland, in the 3rd grade at Emanuel Lutheran Church. They dated and eventually were married in 1963 living in CT then NJ before settling in Newington in 1971 to raise their two children. Judy volunteered extensively with her kid's school and sports activities, but devoted most of her time to Emanuel Lutheran Church where she was part of the church council and craft group. For many years, she led the church youth group at meetings, trips, national gatherings, and Hammonasset campouts. Lastly, she established her pride and joy, the Friday Night Program which flourished under her leadership. For over 30 years, Judy opened the Emanuel gym doors to the neighborhood youth providing a safe opportunity to play games, play basketball, and just hang out for the night. Through the program, several youth benefited from scholar-ships to further their education. In her spare time, Judy enjoyed reading, crafting, doing puzzles, and attending her grandchildren's sporting and performing arts events. Judy was a very special lady. To paraphrase her granddaughter, Judy was the strongest, badass woman we knew. She fought a multitude of battles throughout her life and now it is her time to be at peace. She would do anything for her family and the

people she cared for. Judy found the good in everyone and left a lasting impact on each and every person that was blessed to meet her. God has her now; she is safe and can now rest easy. She was indeed an angel on earth. Judy was predeceased by her sisters Nancy Mccormack and Diane Roule. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roland Johnson, of Newington, her daughter Jennifer and husband Joe of Berlin and her son Michael and wife Jennifer Win-johnson of Newington. Known as Nai Nai, she will be missed by her grandchildren Cooper, Gunnar, Ryan, Maya, Reagan,

and Ava as well as her grand pets Phineas, Bronny, and Bear. She also leaves a brother, Robert Lauritzen, and his wife Grace of Beverly Hills, FL, sister-in-law Carol Dennler of West Hartford, cousins, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grand nephews, and many close friends. Family and friends may call on Tuesday December 21, 2021, at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
