Anthony J. Cosgrove, beloved husband of the late April J. (Lacafta) Cosgrove, passed away on December 23, 2021, after a brief illness. Tony was born in Hartford, CT, on February 3, 1940, to Patrick and Anna (O'brien) Cosgrove, and lived most of his adult life in Newington.

Tony was active by nature. He was an avid reader and was very knowledgea­ble of past and present history. He had a green thumb in which fruits and vegetables would flourish. He loved woodworkin­g, which included making creches for all of his family. He was in the National Guard in his youth.

He was a devout Catholic, participat­ing in many activities in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Hartford. He was a cantor with a wonderful voice, a Eucharisti­c Minister and a caller at the weekly bingo. He loved God, country and family. Tony drove a school bus in his later years and was loved by both children and parents. He was the youngest regional manager in the history of the First National chain of supermarke­ts. Tony owned and operated the Hollywood Market for many years and a grocery store in Granby, CT.

He was a devoted father and will be missed dearly by his sisters and brothers. Tony is survived by his children, Anthony James, Jr., of Newington, Christophe­r Joseph of Berlin, Maryanne of Newington, Michael Anthony (Kristine) of Burlington, and Glenn Francis of Newington, and his adored grandchild­ren, whom affectiona­tely called him “Papa”, Brianna, Kelly, Kayla, Daniel and Erin. Tony also leaves four loving siblings, Joseph Cosgrove (Mary), John Cosgrove, Patricia Geoghegan and Noreen Cosgrove. Besides his parents and wife,

Tony was predecease­d by his sister Terry Cosgrove, brother-in-law Jack Geoghegan, brother-in-law Ben Lombardo, sister-in-law Jackie Cosgrove, and his best friend Nelson Cyr.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, from 9:45 am to 10:45 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 16 Greenwood St., Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at the church. He will be laid to rest in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, is serving the family.
