Richard E. Sherwood, 79, of Columbia CT, died on December 22, 2021 at Windham Hospital, from effects of COVID-19. Sherwood, as he preferred to be called,

or Dick-a-bird, as the family liked to call him, developed many passions throughout his life. He spent decades digging in his pond, puttering in his garage or with his machines and always thinking of different ways to approach a problem. In more recent years, he grew a passion for hydroponics, which he was eager to talk

about. Richard was born in Hartford, CT to John P. Sherwood and Myrtle Irene Sherwood (nee Hull) and was raised in East Hartford, a graduate of East Hartford High School. As a young man, he enjoyed his summers on Amston Lake, where his parents built a home. Richard met his soon to be wife, Margery Badore, in Hebron, CT. They married in 1963, and moved into their first home in Enfield CT, and their first-born son, Robert came along in 1965. In 1967, the Sherwoods moved to their forever home in Columbia CT, and they were blessed with their second child, William, in 1969. Richard spent his career maintaining machines and spent most of his years working for Colt Industries and Pratt and Whitney Machine Co. The Sherwoods welcomed their daughter Courtney in 1978. He was a member of the National Guard from his teens until after he actively served during the Gulf War, a service he was very proud of. Richard rounded off his working career in the Maintenance Department at ECSU. Since his official retirement, Richard was honored to run errands and lend a helping hand to Robert and RDS Trucking. He was a proud parent and grandparent, eager to show up for all our ups and downs. Richard will be missed by his wife of 58 years, Margery, as well as his children Robert (Deborah) Sherwood, William (Stacey) Sherwood, and Courtney (Kyle) Provost, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Brittany Sherwood, Savannah and Julianna Sherwood, and Madison, Lucy and Magnus Provost, and great grandchildren Jaiden and Gabriel. Richard also leaves behind a brother, Dwight Davies of FL and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Thomas Davies. Richard's family will receive relatives

and friends on Thursday, December 30, 2021, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider vaccinating against this deadly virus. For an online memorial
