Fonseca, Irene R. (Rice)

Irene (Rice) Fonseca, 91, of Windsor, beloved wife for 68 years of Raul John Fonseca, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021. She was born in the Poquonock section of Windsor on October 20, 1930, daughter of the late Joseph and Martha (Egelevich) Rice.

She was a graduate of John Fitch High School, Class of 1949 and was a lifelong resident of Windsor, and dedicated communicant of St. Joseph Church. She was employed at Kernan Agency as an insurance agent for 25 years. Irene loved traveling to far off destinations and was an avid traveler, she would say - “if you are given the opportunity to go somewhere then go. “Out of all of her travels she loved taking vacations with her family to Myrtle Beach, and taking early morning walks along the beach. Irene had a green thumb and her vegetable and flower gardens reflected it. She loved movie nights with her family and the old westerns held a special place in her heart.

Besides her husband Raul, she leaves a daughter Sharon I. Fonseca of Windsor, and a daughter Susan I. Fonseca of Windsor as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers Adam, Charles, and Anthony Rice, and four sisters Mary Holley, Frances Kosiorek, Alice Mozur, and Louise Stankevich.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, January 6, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Avenue, Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 7, 2022, beginning at 11 a.m. at St. Damien of Molokai Parish- St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave., Windsor. Guests are asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windsor. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph Church Remembrance Fund, 379 Broad Street,
