Leach Sr., Robert A.
Robert A. Leach Sr., 94, of Southington peacefully passed away, while visiting his son for the holiday season, on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, MI. He was the beloved husband of Lucy (D'ambrosi) Leach.
Born October 21, 1927 in Southington, he was the son
of the late Frank and Annette (Schroth) Leach.
Bob grew up on the Leach family farm where he is still remembered by his cousins as being a prankster. He attended Lewis High School, was recruited on to the football team, but was unable to play due to his obligations on the family farm and graduated with the Class of 1946.
He enjoyed dancing and would dance the night away at a time when Lake Compounce welcomed the Big Bands such as Duke Ellington and even a young Frank Sinatra. Bob's professional career began in sales, as a salesman and later as an architectural consultant.
He served many years as an Honorary Deputy Sheriff for the New Haven County Sheriff's Dept. As a dedicated parishioner of Mary Our Queen Church in Plantsville he served the parish needs faithfully, in roles such as head usher for countless years as well as having served on the church council. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Isabella Council #15. Bob enjoyed entertaining at the house and traveled extensively throughout Europe. He loved to be around people and when invited to gatherings, he would often be the life of the party with his good nature and his sense of humor. He found it difficult to resist playing a good practical joke on those he loved.
Bob was devoted and almost inseparable from his wife Lucy, of 58 years. Certainly, he was happiest when surrounded by his family. We will never forget his smile that immediately sparked that characteristic twinkle in his eye. However, he will be most remembered for the countless acts of kindness and generosity to those
in need whether these individuals were family, close friends, or even complete strangers. He had a love of animals that rooted from his work on the farm. You can take the boy off the farm, but cannot take the farm out of the boy.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his two sons; Dr. Robert A. Leach Jr. of Brussels, Belgium and Richard Leach and his wife Amy of Troy, MI; three grandchildren, Daniel, Abigail and Sarah Leach. He was predeceased by his sister Anne Leach.
His funeral will be held on Monday, January 17th at 10:15 a.m. from the Dellavecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to Mary Our Queen Church, 248 Savage St., Plantsville for a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
