Authorities are investigating a fire in West Hartford that critically injured an unidentified person whom firefighters rescued from the burning house, according to the West Hartford Fire Department.

The victim, identified as having “life-threatening” injuries, was found by firefighters inside the home at 22 Thomas St. after a brief search and was taken to a local hospital, the department said in a statement.

Firefighters responded to the home after West Haven Public Safety dispatch was notified at about 9 p.m. of a fire from a third-party monitoring service.

The notification was a “lifeline” activation regarding a couch fire inside the residence, the department said in the statement.

The West Hartford Fire Department responded, along with police and American Medical Response. and were able to see fire inside.

Multiple fire crews immediately began to extinguish the fire and search the interior for the missing occupant.

Shortly into the search, the victim was found and removed from the residence.

The victim was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, the department said in the statement.

The fire is under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s office, the West Hartford Police Department, and the CT State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit. The residence is not habitable and agencies on scene are working with family members to ensure their needs are met, the statement said.

Immediate advanced life support was provided by emergency personnel.

Hartford Fire Department assisted by covering the town while West Hartford units responded to the fire.
