Rita Osit (Lowell), 86 of West Hartford passed away peacefully on November 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Leo and Jean (Mouber) Lowell. Rita was born in Boston and raised in Waltham, MA until high school. She moved to Wareham, MA and graduated from Wareham High School in 1954 and University of Massachuse­tts in 1958 with a major in History and Education. After graduation, Rita began teaching at Norfeldt Elementary School in West Hartford and received a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Hartford. It was during this time that she met and married the love of her life Steve Osit. They married in 1962 and spent most of their married life in West Hartford. After welcoming their first child, Rita left the teaching profession and volunteere­d much of her time to multiple charities including serving as president of the Jewish Children’s Services Organizati­on and the Emanuel Synagogue Sisterhood. She was very

artistic and creative, specializi­ng in calligraph­y, watercolor­s, sewing, and needlepoin­t. She was also an avid reader, self-proclaimed “local smart person”, mahjong player, and her children’s personal chauffeur. After her children obtained their driver’s licenses, she re-entered the workforce spending 10 years in Underwriti­ng at Cigna. Recognizin­g her talent for teaching, she became a trainer to multiple classes of new Underwrite­rs which she referred to as her “ducklings”. After retiring, Rita spent her golden years enjoying winters in Florida and the company of friends at Seasons Restaurant on Tuesdays and the Crab Shack on Thursdays. Rita will be joined in heaven by her husband of 60 years, Steve Osit, who passed away one week after her. She is survived by her brother David Lowell (Lorraine), children Alan Osit (Sally) and Carla Burns (Michael) and her grandchild­ren, Tyler Osit, Lindsey Osit and Emily Osit. She was predecease­d by her grandson Jacob Osit, who will be reunited with Rita and Steve in heaven. A special thank you with love to Deb Cohen and her caregivers Marcia Elder and Lezline Gayle who showed her so much kindness. A graveside funeral service, for Rita and Steve, will be held on Friday December 9th at 11:00 AM at the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, 74 Wolcott Road, East Granby. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita’s memory can be sent to an organizati­on that
