Martha H. Mclaughlin, 91, of Tolland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2023, surrounded by family and dear caretaker, Christiana Thornton (Safepal). She was born in Sanford, FL on May 25, 1931, a daughter of the late James and Maryetta (Jackson) Holt. She was also predecease­d by twelve siblings and her former husband and good friend, Rennie E. Mclaughlin, who passed away on July 20, 2004. In 1956, Martha and Rennie settled in Tolland to raise their family and where Martha spent the next 66 years. She worked for Gerber Scientific in Vernon in the payroll department and then Standard Register, from where she retired.

Martha was an expert quilter, fisherwoma­n, true cat-lover, and belly dancer. In the summer you could always find her in her garden tending to her flowers. She traveled to all her dream destinatio­ns, including Egypt, Alaska, Hawaii, and throughout the Caribbean, often with her beloved twin sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Chester Jacobs.

Martha is survived by her five daughters and their families: Iona Butler (William), Gloria Wiggins (Ernest), Rita Kelley (Hazell), Mary Slechta (Matej), and Raquel Mclaughlin; eight cherished grandchild­ren, Raina Garfman (Cornell), Sonji Harrington (Hiram), Sirena Butler, William Butler, Miles Slechta (Angela), Sterling Slechta (Stephanie), Raamah Vaughn, and Cyrus Vaughn; six great-grandchild­ren, whom she adored, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including Thomas and Leah Elliott.

There will be a viewing on Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 1-1:30 p.m. a brief service will follow at Laddturkin­gton & Carmon Funeral home, 551 Talcottvil­le Road, Vernon, CT 06066. Martha will be laid to rest in Grove Hill Cemetery during a private graveside service for close family and friends only. The family regrets that due to COVID concerns, there will no repast.
