Pelkey, Theresa Veroneau

Theresa (Veroneau) Pelkey, 90, of South Windsor, beloved wife of the late Stanley Pelkey, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Vernon Manor, surrounded by her family. Terry was born in Woonsocket, RI, on May 16, 1932, to the late Joseph and Florence (Valliere) Veroneau. She grew up in Rhode Island and eventually moved to Connecticut where she met and married the love of her life, Stanley Pelkey. Terry and Stanley loved hosting their friends at their home for a game of cards. They were also faithful parishioners of St. Junipero Serra Parish (St. Francis of Assisi Church) in South Windsor. Terry loved all things fashion– whether it be shopping for sparkly new items, bedazzling clothes in her closet, or sewing new buttons on her blouses. No matter where she lived, she always maintained a beautiful and colorful garden. Terry had a special place in her heart for animals. She enjoyed feeding the hundreds of birds that would nest outside her home, multiple times a day. Throughout her life she had many different dogs, most of which were poodles. Before her passing, she spent every second of the day with her beloved Lucy “Lou Lou'', a chihuahua-beagle mix. She was also an avid bingo player, known for maintaining over 50 cards at once. She loved her trips to the casino– her last trip just a week ago; and she was always a winner! Terry spent a lot of her free time reading magazines and keeping up with the latest celebrity gossip. She knew more about “the stars” than anyone. She cherished the time she spent with her grandkids, Emma and Arden, most, whether it be attending their dance recitals or playing dress-up. Anyone who knew her knew she was the life of the party and was constantly making those around her laugh. Terry leaves her children, Diane Bureau Colavecchio and her husband Vincent of South Windsor, Cynthia Pelkey Sansom and her husband Scott of South Windsor, and Larry Sherman of Enfield; her grandchildren, Emma Sansom, Arden Sansom, Leigh Sherman, and Crystal Szedlacsek; her great grandchildren, Aiden Sherman and Madelyn Sherman; and her special niece, Shirley Duchette and her husband Bob. She is predeceased by her husband, Stanley Pelkey; her grandson, Lawrence Sherman; and her sisters, Jeannette and Claire. Her family will receive friends on Friday, March 10, 2023, from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home beginning at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Wapping Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
