Richard M. Keiper, 90, of Bloomfield, beloved husband for 71 years of Muriel (Stone) Keiper, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford on November 17, 1932, son of the late John Peter and Martha (Hall) Keiper, he was raised in Windsor and had lived in Bloomfield for over 60 years.

Richard was raised in Windsor and attended Windsor Public Schools. After trying to enlist in the military in his early teens, he was very proud to be accepted to serve in the US Air Force in 1952. He was stationed in Germany for most of his enlistment and served during the Korean War era until his honorable discharge as an Airman 2nd Class in 1954.

Richard started his career as a carpenter building homes in Wethersfield. He later took a position at The Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford as a trades supervisor where he oversaw the carpentry, sheetrock, furniture, and maintenance functions for the company. A builder at heart, Richard spent many nights and weekends helping family, friends, and his loyal customers with home improvements and general maintenance. A longtime Bloomfield resident, Richard raised his four daughters in town, and after living in two homes, Richard designed and built his own home in 1980 where he lived until the time of his passing.

In his spare time, he enjoyed painting, putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing cribbage with his children and grandchildren, and taking trips to the casino. Richard and his wife loved to travel and took many memorable trips both domestically and internationally, traveling throughout the United States, Europe, the Caribbean, and South America. Most of all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who loved the simple pleasures in life, relaxing at home with his wife, and spending time with his four daughters, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
