Walter Grudzien, 79, of New Britain, passed away on March 12, 2023. He was born on March 9, 1944, son of the late Stanley and Genevieve (Kulak) Grudzien. Walter was a lifelong New Britain resident and member of Holy Cross Church. He graduated from Pulaski High School and held many jobs throughout his life, including store clerk at Grant's, a bartender at the Blue Danube, and an inspector at Pratt & Whitney. Walter had many hobbies and enjoyed the outdoors. He like baseball and football, cars and motorcycle­s, and fly fishing and hunting. Walter also loved animals and was an environmen­talist. He enjoyed watching birds and spending time with his cat and dog companions. He will be remembered for having a heart of gold. Walter was a good friend who was kind, empathetic and always willing to help.

Walter is survived by his sisters Christine Grudzien of Newington, and Marian Bekker and her husband John of Newington; and nieces and nephews Melissa Hewitt and her husband Jason Greenwald of Redondo Beach, CA, Michael Hewitt and his wife Nicole of Raleigh, NC, Mark Bekker of Fort Myers, FL, and Catherine Bekker and her fiancé Diego Serrato of Newington; as well as many cousins. He is also survived by his close friends Robert Derosier, John Cass and Diana Jablonski. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Walter's family on Wednesday, March 15th, from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, 332 Burritt St., New Britain. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, New Britain. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Belvedere Restaurant, 82 Broad St., New Britain. In accordance with Walter's personalit­y and wishes, please no flowers.
