Sheila E. makes Walk of Fame history

-

Legendary percussionist and multi-instrumentalist Sheila E. was honored Wednesday with her very own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

“Her career can be summed up by using her own words: ‘Follow the beat,’ ” said master of ceremonies Jimmy Jam Harris.

Sheila E., born Sheila Escovedo, met Prince backstage after a gig in the San Francisco Bay Area, which led to the launch of her solo career.

Her list of credits include playing not only with her dad, Pete Escovedo, but also with pioneering talents like Prince, George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan, Beyoncé, Snoop Dogg and Jennifer Lopez. The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter is also the only female musician to tour with Ringo Starr, who called her a “force of nature” at the star ceremony.

“I am proud to call

Sheila E. a friend,” said the Beatles drummer.

Grammy and Oscar winner H.E.R. told the story of seeing Sheila E. perform with Prince when she was 13 years old.

“That changed my life forever because in that moment I knew that I could do this,” she said.

The day’s event marked the first time in history that a female percussionist was honored on the boulevard.

“I used to sit on the corner outside of the local community center with Twinkies and 7 Up listening to Sly and Larry Graham rehearse,” recalled Sheila E. “The sounds of the Bay Area molded me. I’m telling ya, there’s something in the water.”

Palmer addresses criticism:

Keke Palmer is ready to jump into the discourse that was spurred by partner

Darius Daulton Jackson’s online criticism of her.

In a recent interview, Palmer was asked what her mentality was upon learning of the online chatter that centered on her motherhood and her body.

“After having my baby, I’ve gotten so much more powerful,” she said. “We’re going to lean into this new body, and I think that is the whole aura of what’s happening with me in this big boss era as I come into my 30s, and I have my baby boy, and I’m just continuing to spread my wings as a young woman.”

Palmer and Jackson had a public spat after a video of Usher serenading her at one of his shows went viral. Jackson criticized Palmer, who was wearing a black thong bodysuit under a sheer dress.

“It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom,” Jackson replied to the clip on Twitter.
