Karol G wins big at Latin Grammys

Karol G, Bizarrap, Shakira and Natalia Lafourcade won big at the Latin Grammy Awards held Thursday.

Karol G’s “Mañana será bonito” was crowned best album of the year and best urban music album.

Argentine producer Bizarrap took home the awards for song of the year and best pop song for “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” with the Colombian star.

Shakira, who attended the ceremony held in Seville, Spain, accompanie­d by her two children, Milan and Sasha, said that she wanted to dedicate the award to them “because I have promised them that I am going to be happy.”

Natalia Lafourcade, who holds the title for most Latin Grammys in history, added more awards to her list with record of the year.

Edgar Barrera, who began the night as a favorite with 13 nomination­s, had to settle for three awards: composer of the year (a category awarded for the first time), producer of the year and best regional Mexican song. That award came for the compositio­n “un X100to,” a collaborat­ion between his protégés Grupo Frontera and superstar Bad Bunny.

‘Tammy Faye’ headed to Broadway:

Elton John’s musical about televangel­ist Tammy Faye Bakker is coming to Broadway from London.

“Tammy Faye” will land in New York City during the 2024-25 season, producers said Friday. John wrote the music, while Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears penned the lyrics.

The musical was nominated for four 2023 Olivier Awards, including best musical. The story is by James Graham with direction

by Rupert Goold.

Bakker, who died of cancer in 2007 at age 65, has captivated popular culture. Her story was told in the Rupaul-narrated documentar­y “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” which was turned into a Hollywood movie that snagged Jessica Chastain her first Oscar.

Casting for the Broadway version was not announced.

Bridges, Williams to enter Women’s Hall of Fame:

Serena Williams and Ruby Bridges will be inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame next year, the hall announced Thursday, adding the tennis great and civil rights icon to a previously announced list of women to be honored during Women’s History Month in March.

“The 2024 inductee class has broken barriers, challenged the status quo, and left an impact on history,” the Hall of Fame

said in its announceme­nt.

Williams, 42, is a 23-time Grand Slam tennis champion who holds the record for the longest player ranked No. 1. She retired from tennis last year and recently was the first athlete to win the Fashion Icon award.

Bridges, 69, was 6 years old when she became one of the first Black students at segregated schools in New Orleans in 1960. The Ruby Bridges Foundation she establishe­d promotes tolerance and change through education.
