Bacon says ‘yes’ to ‘Footloose’ prom

-

Kevin Bacon will soon be cutting loose as he announced Friday that he’ll attend prom at the school where “Footloose” was filmed — four decades after the ’80s hit danced into theaters.

The Emmy nominee,

65, thrilled Payson High School students while appearing on the “Today” show via video call, during which he accepted their invite to their final prom, as the school will soon relocate and be torn down.

“I have been so impressed with everything that’s been going on there with this crazy idea to get me to come back,” Bacon told students cheering at the school’s auditorium in Payson, Utah.

“I don’t need to say it but the movie and Payson High School was a big part of my life. I’ve been amazed with the work that all of you have been putting into this, with the musical, flash mobs and the re-creations,” he added, referring to the students’ #Baconto Payson social media campaign, in which they re-created iconic “Footloose” scenes and dance moves.

“It hasn’t gone unnoticed by me. Not to mention the fact that you tied in Sixdegrees.org, our foundation, and are trying to figure out ways to give back to our community,” Bacon said. “It’s really inspirational. Thank you, thank you, and I’m gonna come. I gotta come.”

Clearly emotional as the gym erupted into cheers, Bacon thanked the students: “Let’s dance.”

their family.

The couple announced the arrival of their son in an Instagram post they each shared Friday.

“He is awesome and We are all so happy he is here! For the kids safety and privacy we won’t be posting any pictures,” said a caption on the post, adding that Cardinal is “really cute.”

“We are feeling so blessed and grateful,” said the post, which included an illustration with the words, “A little bird whispered to me.”

Pianist Pollini dies:

Maurizio Pollini, a Grammy-winning Italian pianist who performed frequently at La Scala opera house in Milan, has died. He was 82.

Pollini died Saturday, La Scala said. The announcement didn’t specify a cause of death, but Pollini had canceled a concert at the Salzburg Festival in 2022

because of heart problems.

During a six-decade international career, Pollini’s repertoire expanded beyond the standard classics. He embraced early 20th-century masterpieces by Igor Stravinsky, Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern and postwar modernists such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez and Luigi Nono.

La Scala defined the pianist as “one of the great musicians of our time and a fundamental reference in the artistic life of the theater for over 50 years.”
