Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links GC joins major cities as TGL franchise

- Tom D’Angelo

Tiger Woods not only is a co-founder of TGL but now he’s part of an ownership group for one of the teams in the tech-infused golf league.

And that team will represent his hometown area.

The Jupiter Island resident was named owner of Jupiter Links Golf Club in the league that will be played Monday nights starting in January in Palm Beach Gardens. Jupiter is the sixth and final TGL team, joining Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta and San Francisco.

“Through its use of technology, TGL is a modern twist of traditional golf and ultimately will make the sport I love more accessible,” Woods, 47, said in a statement. “Having the opportunity to not only compete but also own a team to represent Jupiter is an exciting next chapter for me. I expect Jupiter Links GC to showcase the golf culture of my hometown as we compete against the best players in the world.”

Rory McIlroy, who lives in Jupiter, will head the Boston Common Golf and include Jupiter’s Keegan Bradley along with Tyrrell Hatton and Adam Scott.

Woods and McIlroy were part of the group that founded the new league that infuses technology with in-person golf.

The remainder of Woods’ Jupiter roster was not announced.

TGL is putting the finishing touches on its venue on the Palm Beach State College campus in Palm Beach Gardens, an air-supported dome that will hold close to 2,000 people and cover an area almost the size of a football field.

The site will include a 40-yard-wide short-game complex with three putting surfaces within the 3,800-squarefoot green and three sand bunkers.

TGL will consist of six teams, each with four PGA Tour players competing head-to-head in 18-hole match play.

The matches will be capped at two hours. The schedule will include 15 regular-season Monday night matches followed by semifinals and finals starting Jan. 9 and televised by ESPN.

Jupiter Links will be co-owned by Woods’ TGR Ventures and David Blitzer, who is a co-managing partner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils.

“Tiger Woods is one of the most influential and iconic athletes in the history of sports and I’m thrilled to partner with him to form Jupiter Links GC,” Blitzer said. “Golf is a sport that has a proven ability to bring people together from all over the world and I’m excited by the potential reach and impact we can have as a team and league.”

TGL could also be the next time we see Woods swing a golf club. The 15-time major champion has not played since the 2023 Masters, where he withdrew because of foot issues. He underwent ankle surgery on April 19 for post-traumatic arthritis in his right ankle stemming from his February 2021 car accident.

Woods, though, has played in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, which is scheduled for Nov. 30-Dec. 3. Woods hosts the Hero World Challenge, which benefits his foundation. And he has competed in the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie, in Orlando for the last three years. That will be Dec. 14-17.
