He was a proud University of Wisconsin Alumni, who enlisted in the U.S. Army upon achieving his Master’s in Business Administration (1964), to serve in Medical Administration at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and in Vietnam. He was discharged with the rank of Captain with commendation.

He then began his career at the First National Bank of Chicago, 1968 to 1976, in commercial real estate finance. As Assistant Vice President in the Commercial Loan Department, he became a skilled credit/risk management executive.

From there he moved to Miami Florida, where he managed and developed commercial banking relationships for Roland International Corporation.

He moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1978, where he personally, under LTM Corporation, acquired, managed and rehabilitated a 100 room motel and restaurant that was in financial peril. Once rehabilitated, he returned as Vice President and Team Leader, to First Chicago in its Washington D.C. office.

In 1985, he moved on to become the Executive Vice President of Real Estate Services Division for Household International Commercial Real Estate Division in Prospect Heights, Illinois, until Household exited the commercial real estate lending business in 1991.

In 1991 through 1995, Al joined D&N Financial Corporation, Hancock Michigan, which was having major problems with their commercial real estate portfolio. As Chief Lending Officer he was able to reposition the Bank and have the Cease and Desist order lifted before he retired.

Al met his wife, Claudette and they moved to Sarasota Florida in 1996. He changed his direction from real estate and became a Certified National Financial Advisor.

Claudette and Al tried their hand at retirement and spent several years traveling across the globe. Al loved her so much he even got scuba certified. Not ones to be idle, it became apparent that retirement wasn’t enough and they formed ACG Corporation and purchased a small business in Sarasota called the Rental Depot which they revamped and it became “Rental Depot, Weddings, Tents and Events”. The business would be further evidence of their powerful partnership and complementary natures, until they closed it in 2020.

He was an avid gardener and could be found in his garden in the mornings, and pontificating in his pool or inspecting his property with a glass of red wine in the evenings. He loved all kinds of music from Hard Rock to Opera and loved to dance. He was a lifelong history buff and political science pundit, with a comprehensive collection of U.S. Presidential history books as well as baseball caps. He avidly rooted for the Badgers and the Green Bay Packers for 82 seasons. He loved being married to Claudette, being a grandpa and being part of the Serenoa Community, all of which gave him much happiness and fulfillment.
