PCR Panels for Diagnosis

A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) greatly amplifies a few bits of DNA. A fecal PCR panel can now identify pathogenic organisms that can cause infectious colitis. Salmonella and clostridium bacteria, as well as corona virus and Neorickettsia risticii (an agent in Potomac horse fever) can all be identified.
