Futurity First

-

For the first time in National Reining Horse Association history, the open futurity was won by a horse shown in romal reins. When Andrea Fappani, Scottsdale, Arizona, ran Spooky Whiz into the arena for their first sliding stop, the entire crowd took notice of the West Coast-style reins and sat up to watch. The pair, running second to last in the event, marked a 225.5 to win a guaranteed $150,000. Spooky Whiz, a gelding, is by Spooks Gotta Whiz and out of Myo Starlight.
