GARLAND — Boos rang out at Culwell Center when Katy’s Christian Martinez defeated Dylanger Potter of Midlothian by one point Saturday night in the UIL Wrestling State Championships.

Martinez (56-1) was awarded the winning point in the Class 5A 132-pound final before overtime actually started because of a false start by Potter, who had been cautioned twice about the infraction.

“It’s the first time I’ve been booed,” Martinez said. “You don’t like to win that way.

“I wish I could have showed the people, because I felt good going into overtime. I was going to win it anyway.”

Four area wrestlers repeated as champions:

Taylor Alva (46-0) of Cypress Woods won her second straight 5A girls title in the 128-pound division with her second consecutive undefeated season. She is 85-0 over the last two years.

Alva (45-0) defeated Felicity Bryant of Amarillo Tascosa 9-3.

William Homalon (51-3) of Morton Ranch pinned Dallas Jesuit’s Shane Ross to end a competitive 5A 126-pound title match.

Ricky Regas (34-0), a Cinco Ranch junior, captured the 5A 182 title.
