Chris Mastrangelo, broker/owner of Habitation Realty, bought his first house when he was 18. By the time he graduated college he had bought, renovated and sold eight properties.

Today, his real estate company, Habitation Realty, is growing and expanding. Mastrangelo will be opening his third office on Washington Avenue, and will be hiring close to 70 experienced agents.

When the new 6,000-square-foot office at 5115 Washington Avenue opens in March, it will host private offices, conference room, entertainment space for gathering and parties, and other spaces and modern conveniences to ensure agents have the tools and meeting spaces needed to accommodate clients.

Habitation Realty, began with an office in Tucson, Ariz., which continues successful operations today. When Mastrangelo settled in Houston, he opened his office at 1332 Yale St., which will continue serving clients, even after the new office opens on Washington.

“We presently have business in the Heights, and the new office will provide convenience for our clients and agents,” Mastrangelo said.

Mastrangelo was born in New York City, and graduated from the University of Arizona.

His passion for real estate started earlier than most, when he bought his first house when he was 18, knowing exactly what he wanted to do in life.

The day he graduated he packed his bags and headed to New York City pursuing a career as a commercial real estate broker. He was immediately hired by Marcus Millichap, the largest real estate investment brokerage company in the country, as an associate.

As much as he flourishes, he could not help but to return to his passion of developing and renovating houses. He began buying and renovating brownstones throughout New York City.

Mastrangelo’s renovated properties have been featured in various publications including The New York Times, The New York Post, The New York Sun, The New Yorker, and Brownstoner.com. In New York, one of his properties was featured on HGTV’s “Hidden Potential.” In Houston, “Flip That House” on TLC shot an entire episode on one of Chris’s projects.

“In 2006 I began to eye the Houston real estate market, and the more bearable climate.

“Over the course of the year I purchased, renovated and sold multiple highend properties throughout Houston. The flying back and forth started to wear thin and I made the decision to sell off all of my New York properties and move to Houston, and I’m glad I did, I love this city,” Mastrangelo said.

Mastrangelo opened Habitation Realty Houston in 2007, with his office in the Heights, and specializing in areas, communities, and neighborhoods inside the Loop.

He brings his sales, construction, and design experience to every transaction.

Part of that construction and renovation experience is he is able to help clients with reviewing the solidity of a home, and help them see past a home’s present spaces and what it could be, which is highly beneficial to clients looking at older homes, such as in the Heights.

“Habitation Realty is a different type of real estate company, that in addition to traditional listing services, we offer staging, and design.

“With all of my renovations and the construction work on my resume, we have a contact list for those who want to spruce up their home or have minor or major work complete prior to putting their house on the market,” he said.
