Pamper YOURSELF

during hustle, bustle of the holidays

- By Valerie Sweeten CORRESPONDENT

The holidays sometimes can be overwhelming as stress from planning meals, coordinating gifts, baking, cleaning and scheduling parties test the patience of even the calmest person.

Taking time to destress and pamper yourself during the holiday season is one way to help look your best when it comes time to take in some fun at the festivities. This includes spa treatments, hair and make-up.

According to MayoClinic.org’s article, “Stress, Depression and the Holidays: Tips for Coping,” taking time to regroup and being able to “take a breather” not only can refresh you, but also restore inner calm.

Tackling the basics begins at a spa, where your needs for being your best, both inside and out, are a possibility.

Vivian Yeh, owner of Josephine’s Day Spa and POSH Salon, explained how a little time at a spa can do wonders for getting in a more relaxed state of mind.

“Stress is everyone’s middle name,” Yeh said. “Our Head in the Clouds Massage is a refresher. Easing head pressure, pushing your shoulders out of your ears and ending with aromatic warmth makes you feel cozy and comfortable. Never underestimate the power of 20 minutes. We’ve got to have some kind of decompression. If you don’t take care of you, who will?”

At ZaSpa, located in Hotel ZaZa, complex director Laura Parsons said its Zen Anti-Fatigue Massage is a path to relieving stress and combating adrenal fatigue.

“Most of us don’t realize that the reason we are so depleted is because we are living a 24/7 lifestyle, and our adrenaline is constantly pumping. That continuous flow of adrenaline drains us. This massage is customized to ease headaches, tension and stress while rebalancing the nervous system with powerful essential oils,” Parsons. said

Also with the onset of the holiday season come the parties, from the corporate scene to friends and family. Taking charge of your look — from makeup to hair and skin — is also essential.

Parsons explained how they work with guests to create a regime that “lights them up.” These can include regular facials with a manageable home care routine, and makeup that is comprehensive but effortless.

“Our bottom line is that having hydrated, healthy skin and hair speak volumes about a person and can be achieved in any budget in a very short period of time,” Parsons said.

Yeh detailed how holiday makeup and hair can impact the party spirit with ontrend colors and styles.

“When planning the perfect party look during the fall, it’s lighter on the eyes with top liner and mascara. Then darker on the lips to make everything pop, like a red or plum. I also love dark hair colors in the fall as well, like chestnut, copper and espresso,” she said.

Being refreshed is a great thing. According to EverydayHealth.com, spoiling yourself with little things that bring you joy is imperative to living a healthy lifestyle.

“Most of our guests feel like a weight has been lifted,” Parsons said. “We have an amazing team of therapists who have a knack for relieving pain and tension that our guests never realized weighed so heavily on them. The results of a good massage or facial last long after our guests depart.”
