Walton jailed, then suspended
Miami running back Mark Walton was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license, leading the Hurricanes to suspend him from the team indefinitely.
County records show Walton was booked into jail late Saturday afternoon, but it was unclear when he would make his initial court appearance or if he retained an attorney.
A person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press that part of the investigation centered around whether Walton impersonated a police officer in a separate incident earlier Saturday.
Walton emerged from spring practice atop the team depth chart at run- ning back. In other news: • Connor Teyki’s run-scoring double in the eighth inning helped Rice defeat Southern Mississippi 4-3 at Hattiesburg, Miss., and move back into a tie for the Conference USA lead with the Golden Eagles.
• South Florida scored three runs in the second inning en route to a 4-1 American Athletic Conference victory over Houston at Schroeder Park.
• Third-ranked Texas A&Mscored four runs in the ninth inning but still fell short in a 7-4 Southeastern Conference loss to Alabama at College Station.
• Texas scored three runs in the seventh inning and added another run in the ninth to beat No. 10 Texas Tech 7-4 at Lubbock.
