Why sell hot dogs when you can give them away? Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty’s West University-area agents recently put a fresh spin on volunteering at the concession stand West U Elementary’s sports field.

They sent out mailers to all of the residents offering free hot dogs the day they were on duty.

The agents had a great time working and handing out food as neighbors discovered there was indeed such a thing as a free lunch. One guest won a gift card to Tiny’s No. 5, a restaurant in the neighborhood. Agents said they want to volunteer again soon.

••• It was a sold-out soiree at the ball room of the Houstonian Hotel at the for the More than You Can Imagine Children’s Fashion Show and Luncheon benefiting Boys and Girls Harbor. A stylish crowd, including John Daugherty, Realtors’ Vicki Lehner — who serves on that organization’s board and chairs the financial development committee — gathered to take part in a silent auction and watch a fashion show featuring Harbor children escorted by local celebrities, as well as the children and grandchildren of luncheon supporters.

Boys & Girls Harbor Inc. has been providing quality residential care in Morgan’s Point for more than 68 years for at-risk children from Harris and surrounding counties. The facility is near the elegant Sterling Mansion — recently featured in a national business publication for its’ resemblance to the “other” White House listed by JDR’s Linn Neese and Chris Foster.

••• Teams from Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene representing several offices spent Saturday fixing up the homes of five families in need as part of the Rebuild America initative. It was a full day painting, fixing and “doing whatever else is necessary,” said Sharon Teusink, Champions office manager. The Champions team, lead by Brian Schwartz and Dan Singer, donated all their materials.

••• Sandy Petermann-Williams, an agent witth RE/MAX The Woodlands & Spring, and her dancing partner, Aaron Lumpkin, the owner of Affinity Ballroom The Woodlands, claimed first place at the recent South Montgomery County YMCA Dancing for a CAUSE with The Woodlands Stars fundraising event.

The event raised more than $60,000 for the YMCA’s annual campaign, which helps make community-strengthening Y programs like swim lessons, after-school care and youth sports available to anyone regardless of age, income or background.

“The YMCA is such an incredible organization and I was so excited to ‘kick up my heels’ and exceed my fundraising goal of $10,000,” said Petermann-Williams, whose efforts raised $14,000 for the campaign.
