No. 1 pick Fuller last rookie to reach deal
Speedy receiver from Notre Dame comes to terms on $10 million pact
Texans first-round draft pick Will Fuller on Saturday agreed to terms on his rookie contract.
The Texans have now completed deals with their rookie class.
Drafted 21st overall out of Notre Dame, Fuller is projected to sign a $10.164 million contract that includes a $5.592 million signing bonus and a firstyear salary-cap figure of $1.848 million under the slotting principle govern- ing rookie contracts in the collective bargaining agreement.
The deal includes the standard fifth-year team option for first-round draft picks.
With Fuller agreeing to terms, there are three remaining unsigned firstround draft picks: San Diego Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa (third overall), New York Jets linebacker Darron Lee (20th) and San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Joshua Garnett (28th).
Excelling as the primary deep threat for the Fighting Irish, Fuller caught 144 career passes for 2,512 yards and 30 touchdowns. He averaged 20.3 yards per catch last season.
Fuller dazzled scouts with his 4.28 speed in the 40-yard dash.
Fuller caught 62 passes for 1,258 yards and 14 touchdowns last season as a junior before declaring early for the draft. He caught a career-high 76 passes for 1,094 yards and 15 touchdowns as a sophomore.
Fuller has a 33½-inch vertical leap and a 10-6 broad jump, but his explo- siveness is more evident on the football field where he’s capable of dashing away from cornerbacks as one of the fastest wide receivers in the NFL.
“He came in working,” Texans Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins said of Fuller. “He kept his head down, asked a lot of questions. He did everything that you expect a rookie to come in that was drafted at his position to do. He didn’t come in like he knew everything. He came in willing to do anything at every position.”
