Pallet yard blaze takes 12 hours to extinguish

-

Firefighters needed 12 hours and more than 75,000 gallons of water to extinguish a massive blaze at a northeast Harris County pallet yard Saturday.

The fire began at about 1 a.m. at Guy’s Pallet Company near the Eastex Freeway and Mooney. Fueled by 50-foot stacks of wooden pallets, the blaze also damaged an adjacent car lot.

There were no reported injuries.

Hundreds of firefighters from Houston, Eastex, Spring and Aldine brought the blaze under control, said Capt. Dean Hensley of the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, which was investigating the cause of the fire.

“It’s a pretty good-sized yard, and there’s a lot of pallets on fire,” Hensley said.
