Rams rally to beat Cowboys in first game back in L.A.

- From wire reports

LOS ANGELES — Dallas’ Dez Bryant caught a 10-yard touchdown pass, but the Los Angeles Rams earned a 28-24 win in their homecoming when Sean Mannion threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Green with 1:54 remaining against the Cowboys at the Coliseum on Saturday.

Bryant had two receptions for 28 yards, including a leaping catch on the sideline against cornerback Coty Sensabaugh for 18 yards. He played one series before leaving the game.

Quarterback Tony Romo, rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott, tight end Jason Witten and left tackle Tyron Smith were held out of the game for Dallas.

Rams running back Todd Gurley and defensive end Robert Quinn also did not play, as a crowd of 89,140 saw Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead score on a 101-yard kick return to welcome the NFL back to Southern California after a 22-year absence.

No. 1 overall draft pick Jared Goff had an up-anddown debut after replacing University of Houston product Case Keenum early in the second quarter, completing four of nine passes for 38 yards and an interception.

Cowboys rookie Dak Prescott started in place of Romo and made a strong case to back him up after Kellen Moore broke his ankle in practice last week. Prescott was 10-of-12 for 139 yards and two touchdowns.

In other preseason action:

• Former TCU star Trevone Boykin engineered a last-minute, 88yard touchdown drive in four plays, hitting Tanner McEvoy with a 37-yard scoring pass, and Tyvis Pope scored the 2-point conversion with no time left, lifting the Seattle Seahawks to a 17-16 victory over host Kansas City. Boykin is competing with veteran Jake Heaps to be Russell Wilson’s backup.

Eagles QB Wentz has rib fracture

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has a hairline fracture in his ribs and there is no timetable for his return.

The No. 2 overall pick was hurt in Thursday’s preseason opener against Tampa Bay.

Wentz sat out Saturday’s practice. Coach Doug Pederson first said Wentz needed treatment, would return to practice Sunday and resume his backup QB duties behind Sam Bradford in the next preseason game.

Pederson said the ribs were nothing more than sore. But the Eagles released a statement hours later that said a CT scan revealed a hairline fracture in his ribs. Pederson says, “We do not know an exact timetable for his return, but we hope to have him back before the end of the preseason.”
