Jerrie Elizabeth Hejl Collins passed away Aug. 10, 2016 in Brenham, TX with family at her side.

She was born in Seaton, TX to Jerry Edwin Hejl and Alba Kopecky Hejl on Feb. 21, 1928. Jerry grew up in El Campo, TX and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Slavonic Languages.

While working in Houston, she met Jerry Hicks Collins on a blind date. They were married Sept. 7, 1952. Jerry’s work as a geophysici­st in the oil and gas industry took them to several places in Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas. They moved to Houston in 1973 where Jerrie spent over 40 years, moving to Brenham in March 2015 to live with her daughter Carol. She and Jerry celebrated their 49th wedding anniversar­y before he passed away in 2001.

While raising four children, Jerrie worked for many years teaching Russian and working as an executive assistant for several companies including Abercrombi­e Oil and ARCO. After retiring, Jerrie enjoyed volunteeri­ng at House of Amos and as a Spanish/English instructor, as well as writing, reading, painting and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by: son John (Sherry) Collins, and children Ryan and Lindsey; daughter Carol (Mark) Jense; son Jay (Julie) Collins, and children Christophe­r and Keri; and daughter Laura (Greg) Jurasin.
