‘Air-con’ effect

-

Earth’s warming climate has resulted in explosive growth in the use of air conditioning during recent years.

Lucas Davis of the University of California, Berkeley, believes most of the world will have the cooling devices in their homes, workplaces and cars within 20 to 30 years. This will spike demand for the fossil fuel power generation experts say is behind climate change.

This July was the hottest month worldwide since records began in 1880, the result of man-made climate change being amplified by the lingering effects of a near-record El Niño in the Pacific.

NASA announced that the month was 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than the 1951-1980 average for July. It was also about 0.2 degrees hotter than the previous record set in July 2015.
