New Elyson community honors many traditions of Katy prairie

-

Opening this fall, the new Elyson community in the Katy Independent School District honors many traditions of the Katy prairie.

Home buyers can get their first look at Elyson at a special VIP Preview event in September, ahead of the official grand opening in October. For an invitation to preview 10 new model homes priced from the mid $200,000s to $600,000s, join the “Elyson VIP” list at www.Elyson.com.

Visitors will see several features honoring the Katy prairie at Elyson, located at Grand Parkway and FM 529, eight miles north of I-10 west.

The most visible feature will be Rorick House, the community’s first major recreational amenity, and home to the Rorick Kitchen cafe and the Elyson home buyer information center.

Working with Houston-based Studio RED Architects, Elyson has reinterpreted and updated the Prairie style of architecture, first introduced in the late 19th century by architects including Frank Lloyd Wright.

The horizontal lines and deep roof overhangs of Rorick House are designed to unify the architecture and prairie environment. The soft, natural colors of brick, stone and shingles reflect the tranquil setting.

The Katy prairie inspired the overall vision for Elyson, which will devote more than 750 acres to parks, trails and natural open spaces.

Elyson’s landscape palette celebrates the beauty and diversity of the prairie, from native trees and grasses, to community orchards where residents can harvest fruit and nuts.

Elyson is named after Ely Freeman, one of the original members of the Freeman family, who settled this land in 1898, the same year the town of Katy was laid out.
