Realtor back to rock and roll at dance club reunion

-

Although still quite committed to his day job, Bernstein Realty’s Mark McNitt has a rock and roll alter ego. This summer he hosted a 30-year night club reunion in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“There are many in the oil patch that have moved to Houston from Tulsa and might remember the Caravan Ballroom up there,” McNitt said. “That dance hall-night club has been in operation since 1982 in Tulsa and I was one of the original DJs during the1980s.”

McNitt’s return to the booth started online last year when he posted a video on YouTube showing friend’s 21st birthday from 1986.

“One thing lead to another and through the power of Facebook, a reunion was planned. This was not a high school reunion, it was a reunion of friends that came out to this night club and have managed to keep in touch over the years,” McNitt said about 400 friends of the Caravan, all in their mid-40s to mid-50s, came out and danced the night away to Def Leppard, KISS, Michael Jackson, Madonna and more.

“I have not DJed since 1993, when I started at Bernstein Realty and was a bit nervous, but the night turned out great and everyone complained their feet were sore and they had lost their voices from all the dancing and singing,” he said.

••• John Daugherty, Realtors’ Bill Dodson and Dean Putterman hosted a wine tasting to raise money for the Building Healthy Families Capital Campaign benefitting Legacy Community Health. Dodson and Putterman are on the capital campaign steering committee and put together the soiree at Nos Caves Vin, a private wine club in Rice Village. Legacy is raising $15 million to build two new facilities in the southwest and Fifth Ward areas of Houston. The two hosts made a presentation about the need for the two facilities and solicited donors.

••• Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty’s Karen Harberg and her husband Jay Harberg stopped by the London Sotheby’s office recently following a 14-day cruise from Amsterdam to Norway to Scotland to Iceland.

She had a chance to chat with the real estate team there, which includes three sales agents and two leasing agents.

••• Beth Wolff, chairman of Beth Wolff Realtors Real Living, and Cheryl Byington of British Petroleum were given a tour of The Mission of Yahweh shelter for abused and/or homeless women and children. The Mission offers rehabilitation.
